Knees and Melons
I've got a little bit of a test for you guys today: Guess which of the spherical objects presented below is largest:
On the left is the lovely Jamie Hammer and her two equally lovely melons, on the right is my knee, 3 days post surgery when I had the dressing changed. That's right, I had ACL surgery on the 15th to fix a my completely torn Anterior Cruciate Ligament.
I sustained the injury while guarding Stephen in a basketball game. Stephen's actually had this injury twice himself and can attest to its suckyness. The blame of course lies squarely on my shoulders. Many people get injured ACLs from impact--tackles and the like--mine was from merely stopping while moving at speed. Stephen quickly changed direction, I switched direction, well, I tried to, my knee kept going where it had been going before, I heard a *pop* then felt my knee destabilize completely, leaving me on the ground to deal with a large amount of pain.
So, I've spent the last week in a kind of haze of Vicodin and Pain. I went through 75 of those pills in 7 days. The good news is that I didn't damage any meniscus (that's padding in the knee that can almost never be replaced) and that I'm young and ACL surgery has good prospects, it used to be career ending, but with modern surgical and rehab techniques it is not.Yay.
